
The Dark Knight, Cecil Harvey, has grown disillusioned with the horrible crimes he has been asked to commit in the name of his king and kingdom. The slaughter of the peaceful people protecting the Water Crystal is the last straw. Together with his brother-in-arms Kain Highwind, he sets forth to gather the other nations to mount a resistance against the kingdom of Baron.
Featuring a massive ensemble cast of twelve playable characters, three world maps to explore, and take full advantage of the new technology on the Super Nintendo to deliver a visual and auditory tour de force worthy to be called ‘The Lord of the Rings of Final Fantasy’.
The Story
Cecil, a Dark Knight of the Kingdom of Baron, has grown weary of the war crimes he’s been asked to commit to retrieve the Crystals of Light. Along with his brother in arms Kain, he sets forth to right the sins of the past. Gaining the aid of nearby kingdoms to fight back against Baron, they find themselves engulfed in ancient plot orchestrated by the villainous Golbez and his four fiends that spans from the hells to the heavens to free an ancient evil sealed deep below the surface of the moon itself that seeks to dominate and control the entire world.
The Characters
Cecil Harvey: A dark knight seeking repentance from his past sins. He eventually succeeds and ascends to being a paladin. Friend of Kain, and beloved of Rosa.
Kain Highwind: The dragoon longtime friend of both Cecil and Rosa, and a rival to Cecil for Rosa’s affection. Kain walks the line between hero and villain, as Golbez uses his friendships and affections to manipulate the dragoon into obedience.
Rosa Farrell: A white mage from Baron and the lover of Cecil. She sets out to help Cecil after he is banished from Baron and becomes the emotional pillar of the group.
Rydia: A young summoner child found by Cecil and Kain after they are tricked into destroying the summoner village. The incident leaves her with a paralyzing fear of fire. She eventually is lost to the realm of faeries where she rapidly ages to adulthood due to different rates of time.
Tellah: An elderly sage said to know the secret magic of Meteor. He is on a quest to destroy Golbez to avenge his daughter’s death, and will stop at nothing to achieve it.
Edward Chris von Muir: The bard prince of the kingdom of Damcyan and the paramour of Tellah’s daughter. This leads to a great deal of animosity from the old wizard, as he partially blames Edward’s wooing as the reason the young woman was in caught up in the attack by Golbez.
Yang Fang Leiden: The grandmaster monk of Fabul and the retainer to its king. Yang is dispatched by his liege to join Cecil and stop the ever growing violence perpetrated by Baron. Yang is honestly just happy to have the time away from his wife.
Palom & Porom: The prodigy mage twins of Mysidia. Palom utilizes black magic, and Porom uses white. Despite their young age, they are tasked with escorting and guarding the dark knight Cecil to Mount Ordeals. They are also total fans of Tellah’s legendary magic knowledge.
Cid Pollendina: Baron’s premiere airship engineer who is responsible for designing the Red Wings. He is imprisoned as a traitor when he refuses to share his new prototype airship with the king of Baron when he becomes suspicious of the king’s intentions. He is also the first playable Cid in the franchise.
Edge: The Prince of the destroyed kingdom of Fabul. He is a trained ninja seeking to avenge his kingdom against the Fiend of Fire – Rubicante – and its master Golbez.
FuSoYa: The powerful magic user left to guard the subterranean prison on the moon. He joins forces with Cecil when Zemus breaks free from confinement.
Golbez: The mysterious villain knight whose goal is to collect the four crystals of light and four crystals of darkness to break the seal on his master’s prison on the moon.
The Four Fiends: The servants of Golbez. They are Scarmiglione, the Fiend of Earth. Cagnazzo, the Fiend of Water. Barabriccia, the Fiend of Wind. And Rubicante, the Fiend of Fire.
Zemus: A Lunarian who believes his people are superior to the humans of Earth, and that the Lunarians should awaken from their slumber and dominate the planet. To this end, he reaches out and twists the heart and mind of Golbez to free him.
Zeromus: The embodiment of pure hatred that is born from the malice in Zemus’ heart. It serves as the true final boss of the game.
